Takeaways for Vietnam 

Vietnam is perfectly positioned in Asia as a low-cost and close proximity alternative for Chinese manufacturers, which are increasingly pressured to counter rising costs through outsourcing. Within closer reach than regional rivals and producing greater value than regional counterparts, Vietnam has emerged as a hub for manufacturing in the region. Resulting investment inflows have in turn propelled incomes and sparked a significant uptick in consumer spending in recent years. In 2017, Vietnam is projected to continue on its path of growth and competitiveness with expectations for the following developments: 

  • 6.7 percent target headline growth with key sectors such as IT projected to see strong gains. 
  • Sustained levels of foreign direct investment from a variety of investors including manufacturers coming from China
  • Continued progress towards regulatory clarity and business competitiveness through the issuance of guiding circulars
