U.S. Commerce Department Initiates Sunset Review of Vietnam Laminated Woven Sacks
The U.S. Department of Commerce (DOC) has initiated the first sunset review of anti-dumping and countervailing duty orders on laminated woven sacks imported from Vietnam, as reported by Vietnam’s Trade Remedies Authority under the Ministry of Industry and Trade (MoIT).
This decision was made public by the DOC on May 1.
The products under investigation bear HS codes 6305.33.0040, 3917.39.0050, 3921.90.1100, 3921.90.1500, 3923.21.0080, 3923.21.0095, 3923.29.0000, 4601.99.0500, 4601.99.9000, 4602.90.0000, and 5903.90.2500.
They were previously subjected to U.S. anti-dumping and countervailing duty investigations in 2018 and have been taxed since 2019 at rates ranging between 109.46 percent to 292.61 percent for anti-dumping and 3.02 percent to 198.87 percent for countervailing duties, as disclosed by the agency.
Sunset reviews occur every five years. If the review suggests that discontinuing the anti-dumping and countervailing duties might result in the continuation or recurrence of dumping and subsidization, causing significant harm to U.S. production industries, the duty orders will be extended for another five years.
The Trade Remedies Authority advises pertinent production and export businesses to acquaint themselves with the regulations and procedures governing the U.S. sunset review process.
It emphasizes that businesses must fully adhere to the requirements of the U.S. investigating agency and maintain close coordination with the authority throughout the entirety of the case proceedings.
