Call for Foreign Investment to Develop Hue Airport
Aug. 26 – Vietnam is seeking foreign investment partners to upgrade Phu Bai Airport in Thua Thien-Hue Province in central Vietnam by 2020.
Authorities want the airport to be up to international standards with the capacity to cater to five million passengers. Currently, the airport can only serve 500,000 passengers annually.
This is not the first time the airport has called for foreign investment. In 2008, state-managed Middle Airports Corporation signed a memorandum of understanding with Singaporean-based Changi Airport International management for a joint venture to develop Vietnam’s airports, although the deal fell through when no common ground could be reached regarding major issues.
Thua Thien-Hue Province is a popular tourist destination for both local and foreign visitors. It is well-known for its art industries, literature and unique cuisine.
